The Mysterious Benedict Society (Book I) | Trenton Lee Stewart

I thought the illustrations were familiar and then I realize it’s the same artist who worked on A Series of Unfortunate Events. Anyway, it was a good read, with three smart kids from interesting backgrounds, sent off to an adventure to solve a mystery, with a lot of surprises and puzzles. It was clearly meant for much younger readers but I did like the illustrations, I’ve always wanted to learn to draw in the same style.

Off to the Seven Kingdoms. I wonder what happened to Arya. And Dany’s dragons. And to Jon Snow.

“When things break, it’s not the actual breaking that prevents them from getting back together again. It’s because a little piece gets lost - the two remaining ends couldn’t fit together even if they wanted to. The whole shape has changed.”

photo book Isn't the cover pretty? I know one should not judge a book by it's cover but really how can anyone resist this? I love you Jonathan Safran Foer

I just finished reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. And it broke my heart. Into million tiny pieces.

Travelling With Pomegranates by Sue Mon Kidd and Ann Kidd Taylor

It was still covered in plastic when I bought it so imagine the glorious moment when I flipped through and sniffed the pages. It was on sale when I bought it. Originally, it cost Php1,109 but I got it for only Php200! It was actually the reason I bought it. Haha. I do know Sue Monk Kidd from Bees, I just haven’t read any of her works. But I thought it was interesting that it was written in two perspectives, of Sue and her daughter Ann. And it’s mother-daughter story, and I haven’t read one for a long time.

I’ve finished reading Looking for Alaska and all I can say is that I should have read it a long time ago. John Green is a genius. It’s not just any other young adult books, it makes you think. About life, death, and the things that may happen in between. I wonder what my last words are going to be.

PS: Aside from both being coming-of-age books, I think there are a lot of similarities between Perks and Looking for Alaska. Anyway, I’m not up for a full-blown review for these three so I’ll just say I loved them all although I had to struggle through the first few chapters of Girl.

I’ve been meaning to read this since I saw someone reading it on a subway in Singapore which, I think, is also about the time the Millennium Series was getting very popular. And that was, hmmm, seven months ago? I’ve had a copy since December but I’ve been so busy and trying to finish reading other books. Anyway, I decided to finally read it before they release the movie this year.
